APRI and You
APRI (America’s Pet Registry, Inc.) is not just a dog registry that gives you a fancy piece of paper with your pet’s name and bloodlines. There is so much more to APRI than your pet’s registry. Yes, it is one of the premiere organizations to register your pets with. The standards to register a pet are top notch. All dogs registered with APRI have a minimum of a verifiable three generation pedigree. This helps to keep the blood lines true and accurate. Fees to register your pet are comparable to other registries. When you register your pet, you are actually raising the value of the pet, as it is a proven fact that a registered pet is more valuable than a non-registered pet. If you want to compete in kennel events, the pet must be registered.
APRI came into existence in the late 1980’s. It originally was started to enable breeders to have a registry service. It was started by the pet industry itself. Since that time, it has grown and is now one of the largest registry services, with customer service that is second to none. They exist to serve you, the pet breeder and owner. APRI promotes responsible pet ownership and increased public awareness of humane and noble animal practices. The fees you pay to register your pets with this organization go to help you as a breeder and owner in several ways. Let’s look at some of them.
One thing that APRI does for you is the hosting of Dog Shows that enable you to show your pets and compete with other owners. This gives you a chance to find out just how good your pet is, what you need to work on, and meet with judges who are a wealth of information. Lifelong friendships are made all the time at these competitions. People who attend these professional dog shows have a lot of fun, and you never know, you may just head home with the coveted Blue Ribbon. Or better yet, the Best of Show award! There is nothing political or prejudicial at these shows. Each pet is judged on their own merit, not against each other. These shows are a great family activity, and have often times the children of the family are the ones to show the pet. They are simply a fun family activity that you can share with your pets. Be sure to bring along that health certificate and shot records-it is a requirement to show your pet.
Another thing APRI does for you is to encourage you to attend seminars and continue to educate yourself on the breeding industry and pet ownership. They know that this will only help the industry and you. APRI knows that the pet breeding industry is a constantly changing industry. By staying current on what is going on in the industry, both in care and nutrition, health issues, updates on necessary supplies and equipment and what is going on in pet legislation, you can provide the best possible care for your pets.
APRI helps breeders and owners by staying current on legislation that affects pet breeders and pet owners. Their representatives, who combined have about 50 years experience, travel to many different states on behalf of the industry and speak with not only pet breeders and owners, but with legislators as well. They speak as experts in the pet breeding industry and how legislation will affect that industry. Legislators, many times, do not know the effects of their actions and how it will affect the people directly. This is where APRI’s knowledge is so beneficial to you and the legislators. APRI’s assistance in this area has no number limitations on how often they will be available to help you. They will be there each and every time you need their assistance.
APRI meets with breeders and owners to assist them in the direction that the breeders and owners want to go in legislation. They do this in a positive manner to enable you to get the best results possible in a given situation. They will advise you, but do not dictate policy. They are not a lobbying organization, nor a PAC (Political Action Committee). They act in an advisory capacity, for you, to enable you to make the best decision possible as to the direction you want to take in responding to pet legislation in your state, as well as on a federal level. They have a vast array of knowledge and experience to offer, should you want to take advantage of it. Due to the fact that the representatives are not breeders themselves, though they were in the past, they do not “have a dog in this fight” (no pun intended), and have more freedom to speak out for you. Sadly, animal rights people at times will take “retaliatory actions” against breeders who do speak out.
When considering a registry service, consider APRI. You will find this service to be friendly, knowledgeable, pet and pet ownership motivated, family oriented and the best customer service in the industry. At APRI, you will find the service you are looking for in a Registry Service.
