What Business is the H$U$ Really In?

The following paragraph is from our recent article titled “H$U$ Creates Another Media Circus in Indiana”. If you read this slowly and let it soak in it should make you mad as hell!

“So what happened to the 240 dogs? The Humane Society of the United States (H$U$) purchased all of them for a total price of $300.00, or just over $1 per dog, the day after the seizure. I don’t care if you call it a sale, an adoption, whatever, does it seem that the H$U$ is now in the business of being a Commercial Pet Retailer? Did they pay the required sales tax on the purchase of the dogs? Wonder if they are licensed and abiding by all rules and regulations? How convenient was it that the Missouri Humane Society was present for the seizure? Or was this a pure and simple set up, orchestrated by the H$U$?”

If this didn’t make you mad you should more than likely stop reading right here.

How is it possible that these people are allowed to seize people’s personal property and sell it? What if that was your dogs that were seized? What if that was your house pet they took? Why are they (the HSUS)not required to live by the same rules as the rest of us? Why are they allowed to disperse animals, rehoming them to God only knows who before a trial? Why are they allowed to purchase dogs from a breeders kennel for fraction of their value? Did they (the HSUS) pay the sales tax on the stolen dogs? If not, why not?

The Humane Society of the United States and the Missouri Humane Society teamed up to take the dogs that were wrongly seized from this family. These dogs were SOLD – that is right – SOLD before this ever went to trial. The police don’t even get to do that with stolen property.

The Humane Society of United States seems to live above the law. They don’t live within the rules for a 501 C3 nonprofit. Because of this the federal government has lost untold amounts of tax revenue. Where is the outrage over that? Any CEO in a for profit company would be in jail and there would be a tax lien on the companies assets.

Ever wonder why dog breeders and owners have such strict regulations they have to live by and yet, to the best of my knowledge, not one State requires shelters, rescues, pounds or humane organizations are required to live by the same rules. Why are the dogs in those situations less deserving of good care than privately owned dogs? Ever wonder why those facilities are not required to pay sales tax on the dogs they sale? It is not a sale but rather an adoption you say? Guess what – it is a sale I don’t care what you label it. They are selling dogs and cats.

If this family really lost their kennel over sales tax – would it have not been to the States advantage to collect the unpaid sales tax and collected future sales tax rather than taking the sales tax producing portion of the farm away.

Did you know that HSUS lobbies in nearly every State for strict rules on the care and control of breeders? Did you know that most States have no rules for the care of pets in shelters, rescues, humane societies or pounds? Does this mean that pets held in those facilities deserve less care than those that held by breeders and pet owners.

It is about time we, dog breeders and owners, came together as strongly as the Animal Rights movement has. We are voters and together we can send a message to the IRS, to the legislators and to the HSUS.

Stand up for your right to own and breed the pet of your choice!
